Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register my child for Keyboards For Kids?
Please visit our New Student Registration Page to the left of the menu choices, which will direct you to a secure site where you will have the option of registering one child or your family. Materials for each course are: $30.00 a year for one child, or two or more children (discounted family rate) of $40.00. Before submitting payment you will be asked to provide information about your child’s school, grade, allergies, desired class, and safety, purchase supplementals like CD's and t-shirts.
Can I register by mail? What if I don’t have internet access?
Yes, you may register by mail although we highly recommend the online or phone registration option for efficiency and simplicity. If you choose to mail-in, call us and we can usually pencil you in to save your spot. To register by mail fill out a registration form, which can be found on the back of a Keyboards For Kids brochure, or contact us for one. Call us the day you mail it so we can pencil in your child’s name. Our classes are small and fill quickly. Mail that along with your registration payment of $30.00 for one child or $40.00 for two or more children to:
Keyboards For Kids, Inc
P.O. Box 11999
Denver, CO 80211
If you do not have internet access or email it is very important that you stay in contact with us regarding classes, your account and your child via phone. In case of inclement weather, you must call the office.
Does registration ensure that my child will have a spot in a class?
Yes, registration is how you reserve a spot in the program for your child. We recommend that you register your child as soon as possible because classes fill up fast! Keyboards For Kids will not start a class until a minimum number of children (six) have signed up, so it is also very importance that you express your interest by registering your child on our website by visiting the Keyboards For Kids Registration Page.

What does the materials fee include? Does the registration fee apply towards tuition? Will I have to pay for registration again next semester if I choose to enroll my child in the Keyboards For Kids program again?
Aside from ensuring your child a spot in our program, your registration payment covers the cost of materials and supplies such as the music text book (one text per semester per 8 week class), or for shorter classes (4, 5, or 6 weeks) a packet of in-class materials, and in-class recital certificate and cookie reception for parents and friends to attend. It is not a recital. Registration is non-refundable, although it is transferable to a sibling or other family member. Registration does not apply towards tuition, and the fee is waived for students who re-enroll for subsequent semesters unless your registration specifically states "materials fee per semester". Occasionally you will be offered the chance to purchase a new musical text book for your child as they progress with our program but one text per semester is already paid for with your yearly materials fee.
When is tuition due? Will I receive a bill?
Payment is due at registration. You will receive a receipt generated by Pay Pal, our secure payment option. We do not invoice. Classes cost about $15.00 each depending on school district! Late payments will be fined an additional $15.00/month.
Is tuition refundable?
Tuition is only refundable (remaining unused classes only) within the first two weeks of any semester. After two weeks into the semester, there is no refund. Any refund due to illness or moving will be solely at the discretion of Keyboards For Kids.
Can I pay tuition or registration to my child’s Keyboard For Kids instructor?
We are sorry for the inconvenience; however at this time our instructors are not bonded and are unable to accept any payments. They are however, available to answer questions and discuss the program and your child’s progress with you.

Does my child have to bring his or her own Keyboard? Can my child bring his/her own Keyboard and/ow drum to class?
No, your child does not have to bring his or her own Keyboard. We provide high quality multi-function Keyboards for the students to use in each class. In order to protect your child’s personal Keyboard, we ask that they leave it at home and use it to practice and show you what they learned each week with Keyboards For Kids! Drum Circle class teachers bring all the percussion items needed for the children.

Does my child have to provide his or her own Violin, Viola, Cello, or Guitar?
Yes, your child should have his or her own instrument to bring to class and play at home. Each child requires a different sized instrument; because of this we ask that you and your child attend a fitting to get a proper sized instrument for their age and height. Our “Partner in Education” The Golden Music Center, (303) 279.1111, can arrange for purchases, and rent-to-own Violins, Violas, Cellos, and guitars for purchase only. You must tell them that you are a Keyboards For Kids student to receive our special pricing.
Where should I go to get an instrument for my child?
Golden Music Center, located at 2430 East St Golden, CO 80401
(303) 279-1111 offers a KFK discount .Ask to speak with Mary and make sure to inform them that you are with Keyboards For Kids. Golden Music can provide excellent advice and information on instruments. They will also make sure that your child is playing music on the appropriately sized violin or guitar.
I would like to purchase a keyboard for my child. How do I do this?
We are not currently selling keyboards. If you would like
us to make a recommendation, please ask your teacher or call the office.

Do I have to purchase a keyboard for my child?
No, you do not have to purchase a keyboard for your child, although it is strongly recommended that they have one at home to play and learn on. A piano will also work great for your child to practice their material at home. We provide high-quality multi-function keyboards to the children for use during keyboard class.
Do I have to have a Piano at home for my child?
No, you do not have to have a Piano or Keyboard to enroll in the Keyboard classes, however many children love being able to show their parents at home what they are learning. The teacher can provide a paper-keyboard to use on a table or desk by request.
How much homework or practice will be required of my child?
Although we don’t require any homework or practice, we feel that it is important and we highly encourage children to use the skills they are learning at home so that they may progress and keep up with the class. The instructor will send home a weekly practice and assignment sheet that will give you ideas about what your child can be doing at home to practice what they have been learning in class. Your child WILL be asked to "tally" or make a small mark indicating how many times they played through each piece on the home assignment. Our current suggested number of tallies per song per week is 10.
How many classes can I expect my child to attend for each session?
The Keyboards For Kids class schedule strictly follows the calendar for each individual school. Most sessions run between 8 and 12 weeks, and this information is provided to you at registration.
How long are the classes?
Classes meet once a week for 45 minutes (family classes are one hour) on a set day and time. This does include set-up time for teachers when unable to set-up the keyboards due to space issues. Actual instruction time is about 35-40 minutes.

What if the class is cancelled or my child misses class one week?
If weather is an issue, please check our website. We cannot guarantee you will receive a phone call or email. However, we will do everything we possibly can to inform the school and families if we need to cancel a class. Please keep our website bookmarked as we will post a notice for weather-related issues.
Some classes may not take place because of scheduled school closures, snow days, school conferences, or holidays. Please call your school office or our office. Tuition and semester billing reflects known cancellations, and it is at our discretion that we offer either a make-up class or tuition credit in the event of a last minute cancellation. We do not offer make-up classes for students who miss their class for any reason, however in such a case students are welcome to attend a similar class at any one of 40 schools where our program is offered. You must contact our office at 303.215.1535 and reserve a space if you would like to take advantage of this option for your child to make up a missed class.
What if my child is in a class that doesn’t begin directly after school? I'm at work and can't get him until later.
We offer complimentary childcare assistance for students enrolled in classes that don’t take place directly after school. These children should report after school directly to their Keyboards For Kids classroom when the bell rings. The Keyboards For Kids teacher will provide these students, called ‘waiters’, with a place in the classroom where they can do homework, relax, play games, or do activities from the “Busy-Box” that we provide. The teacher will be teaching a class for younger students during this time, so it is of utmost importance that your child is independent, quiet, and well-behaved during this waiting period. You may want to send a prepackaged MUSIC CLASS SNACK with your child in his lunch box or backpack to enjoy while waiting for his class.

Keyboards For Kids doesn’t offer the class my child wants to take at his school. Are there any options for him?
At some schools we are unable to offer certain classes. However your child is welcome to attend class at any one of the schools where we do offer the program that you are interested in. Please look at our list of schools, dates and times under “All Classes” as well as our Family Classes. Contact us if you would like to take advantage of this option.
What if you don’t offer KFK classes at my school?
Please take a look at all of our schedules under “All Classes” to determine if there is the appropriate class at a different school. Let us know personally if this is something that you would like to pursue so that we may assist you and answer any questions that you may have.
***We would love the opportunity to have Keyboards For Kids Classes at your school! Please contact us if you would like us to speak with your Principal about our program. We offer affordable group lessons to children of all ages (including Elementary, Middle, and High school students in public, private, or home school settings) at all cities and suburbs across the Denver area. ***
What is the age range that I can expect to see in my child’s Keyboards For Kids class?
We separate the children into classes based on their age and grade starting with Preschool – Kindergarten, followed by 1st – 2nd and then 3rd – 6th grades. An age-appropriate curriculum is presented to each group, and the children enjoy the company of their classmates from school! Occasionally we may re-group a class to incorporate multi-ages, grades, or enrollment needs.
Are there any age restrictions?
We welcome children ages 3+ in Keyboard. Guitar students must be in 2nd grade, violin students should be in 1st grade. If you have a younger child interested in guitar or violin we highly recommend enrolling them in our keyboard classes to learn fundamentals first.
